OXITEC® 5000 / COMTEC® 6000 Analyser are available with HART or Fieldbus Interface

The more complex a production process is, the more importantly it is to supervise it from a central control room. This is now possible with the use of the HART or the Fieldbus communications protocol. In comparison to an analogue interface, not only will the measured values transfer, but all relevant analyser parameters such as: cell voltage, cell temperature, cell constant, cell slope and any error messages or alarms. This leads to a faster error analysis and thus to lower operating and maintenance costs.

Both interfaces make it possible to calibrate the OXITEC® 5000 and COMTEC® 6000 analyser systems from the control room and to switch the analyser measuring range, which again reduces maintenance costs. This "remote control" facility is particularly useful with hazardous area explosion-proof EExd systems, since the opening of the electronic housing in a classified hazardous area  can easily be avoided.

Another advantage results from the installation of the system. The amount of cabling is minimized and therewith potential malfunction sources are eliminated.

Already supplied OXITEC® 5000 and COMTEC® 6000 analyser systems can be upgraded with a HART or Fieldbus interface (by an exchange of the circuit board)  .

Operating Mode of the HART protocolHART Communication Foundation

The HART protocol (Highway Addressable Remote Transducer) permits a simultaneous transmission of digital information and analogue current signal. The HART signal will be overlaid on the analogue current signal with an amplitude of +/- 0.5 mA.

HART is a master/slave communication protocol. Each communication is started from the master (display/operating unit e.g. process control system). The slave (the field equipment, in our case the OXITEC® 5000 or COMTEC 6000® electronic unit) interprets the received instruction electronic data, accomplishes the contained functions and sends back a reply electronic data signal with the result or inquired value.

Operating mode of the FOUNDATION FieldbusTM

The data packets are modulated upon the supply voltage to theFieldbus Foundation Member field bus devices and transmitted via a shielded two-wire cable. This offers the advantage that the communication and the power supply is accomplishable by a single shielded cable. Through a distributed communication the FOUNDATION FieldbusTM enables individual field devices to provide process control functions and to allow bi-directional data communication to one another.

The FOUNDATION FieldbusTM also permits the communication between devices of different manufacturers. To perform this task an open protocol specification is necessary. This occurs in FOUNDATION FieldbusTM by means of the Device Description and a Block Model. In the Device Description (DD) the communication pattern of the device is described and the use defined. It contains all parameters which are needed to operate the device.

Before registration all Device Descriptions (DD) have been tested together with the devices in detail, by FOUNDATION FieldbusTM. This makes sure that the communication between devices of different manufacturers’ operates without problems.

For the bus connection the OXITEC® 5000 electronic unit as well as the COMTEC® 6000 electronic unit possesses a separate terminal.
